You May Not Need More Leads. You May Need to Investigate the Last 100.
When a business feels like it isn't generating enough opportunities, the instinct is almost always the same: spend more on advertising. More budget, more campaigns, more leads. It's an understandable instinct, and sometimes it's the right one. But before increasing spend, it's worth asking a cheaper question first: what actually happened to the last 100 leads that came in?
In our experience, this question is rarely asked, and almost never answered with confidence. Most businesses can tell you how many leads a campaign generated. Far fewer can tell you how many were contacted within the hour, how many received a second follow-up after no response, how many were assigned to a specific person, or how many simply went quiet with no record of why.
This gap matters because it is invisible in the numbers that get the most attention. A dashboard showing lead volume looks healthy even when half of those leads never received a timely response. The problem isn't visible until someone manually traces individual inquiries through the process, which is exactly the exercise we recommend before any conversation about increasing ad spend.
A simple audit of 100 recent leads usually surfaces the same handful of issues: inconsistent response times depending on who happened to see the inquiry first, leads that were contacted once and then abandoned, and inquiries that were never assigned to anyone at all. None of these are advertising problems. They are process problems, and they will consume additional leads at the same rate they consumed the last batch.
The more useful question, then, isn't "how do we get more leads", but "where exactly did the last 100 stop moving forward, and why". Answering that honestly is usually the fastest way to improve results, because it fixes a leak instead of pouring more water into a bucket that is still losing it.
This is also why we start every engagement with a conversation about your current process rather than a recommendation. Until we understand what happens to an inquiry after it arrives, any suggestion about advertising, automation or CRM tooling would be a guess.
